People are not defined by the struggles that they face, but are a complex amalgamation of their environment, biology, and life experiences. My role as a therapist extends beyond the goal of simply fixing problems. Through the development of a deep therapeutic relationship lies the opportunity to create meaning out of life's difficulties, heal from painful experiences, and develop greater insight into one's life. Psychotherapy can provide necessary support as lives shift through different phases of development, interpersonal relationships change, and the environments in which we live, learn, and work evolve.
I have been practicing as a psychotherapist for more than 25 years. During this time, I completed post-graduate psychoanalytic training and developed a particular expertise in treating children, adolescents, and families. Additionally, I am certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), which is used to treat emotional trauma.
While my primary practice is in Illinois, where I treat children and adults in person, I am also licensed in Iowa, where I see teenagers and adults virtually.
