My Approach to Therapy

Are you having the same painful argument over and over, or perhaps you've stopped arguing altogether and feel more like roommates than partners? Maybe trust has been broken, resentment has grown, or you're wondering whether your relationship can be repaired. I help couples understand the patterns beneath recurring conflict so they can move beyond blame, communicate more effectively, and decide with greater clarity and confidence how they want to move forward. I welcome multicultural, neurodiverse, LGBTQ+, and consensually non-monogamous relationships. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I offer an active approach grounded in leading evidence-based models of couples therapy, including the Gottman Method and emotionally focused therapy (EFT). If you're rebuilding after betrayal, navigating parenting or life transitions, or considering separation, I'll tailor therapy to the unique needs, strengths, and goals of your relationship. Relationship struggles can feel lonely, confusing, and overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate them alone. My office is a place to slow things down, better understand yourself and your partner, and begin creating lasting change. If you're ready to take the next step, I'd be honored to help.

My Practice & Services

I’m a couples therapist and discernment counselor who genuinely enjoys helping couples navigate relationship challenges, gain clarity and confidence, and develop the skills they need to build healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Our relationships are deeply connected to our overall well-being, and when we strengthen the ways we connect, communicate, and understand one another, we create opportunities for greater happiness, connection, and fulfillment in our lives. I work primarily through telehealth to accommodate couples’ busy schedules, and I will have an office in Hyde Park, Illinois, in December 2026.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

Couples therapy requires a different kind of therapeutic relationship than individual therapy. There isn't just one therapeutic alliance to consider—there are several, and all of them matter. I pay attention to the relationship between each partner and me, as well as to how each partner experiences my relationship with the other. If either of you begins to feel that I am “on your partner’s side” or that your perspective is not being understood or valued, it can undermine the safety and effectiveness of the therapy. Just as importantly, you and your partner need to feel that we are working together toward a shared focus, even when you may have different perspectives, needs, or goals. I actively monitor these different dimensions of the therapeutic relationship throughout each session and at pivotal moments in the work. I’m paying attention not only to what you are talking about, but also to how we are working together and whether both partners feel heard, respected, and engaged in the process. This ability to track and work with the therapeutic alliance while simultaneously attending to the relationship dynamics in the room is an important part of specialized couples therapy. It is one of the ways my training and experience as a couples therapist differ from the work of an individual therapist who also occasionally sees couples.
