What's My Approach to Therapy?

Thank you for checking out my biography. My name is Joseph Keith Brewton, and I am a fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of clinical experience. I believe in finding practical approaches to the problems that you have or currently are encountering. I also believe that you deserve to be told the truth, not just what I believe you want to hear about pacifying or flattering you. I believe it's important to move beyond the problematic thoughts or behaviors that are causing you problems or dysfunction in your life, your thoughts, or your relationships. Let's work together toward a better version of you! I have always taken multiple different approaches therapeutically to come to the same result. The result is living a better life and being a better version of yourself. To accomplish this goal, I work mostly from a Cognitive Behavioral approach to therapy, focusing on the maladaptive thought processes that contribute to dysfunctional or unhealthy behaviors. I also believe experiential therapy is important as well, mainly focusing on how you feel about your experiences and why. Motivational interviewing is important to produce and encourage change, as is a Solution Focused approach to therapy, both of which I also incorporate into my therapy with you.
