My Approach to Therapy

Finding the right therapist matters. Training and experience matter, of course, but so does something harder to define: the sense that the person sitting across from you really gets you. Therapy works differently when you feel genuinely met, when there is trust, curiosity, honesty, and room to bring all of yourself into the conversation. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and more than twenty-five years of experience. My approach is grounded, deeply relational, and integrative. I help people with the practical challenges of being human, grief, relationships, life transitions, difficult emotions, and patterns that no longer serve them, while also making room for the deeper questions that sometimes live underneath. I especially enjoy working with people who are curious about themselves and open to exploring what their lives may be asking of them. You may have done therapy before, perhaps successfully, but find yourself wanting something deeper now. You may be thinking about meaning, purpose, spirituality, identity, or simply sensing that something in you is changing or coming alive, and wanting space to understand it. Our work isn’t highly structured or driven by techniques and homework. It is a genuine human relationship informed by decades of clinical experience, careful listening, reflection, practical attention to your daily life, and plenty of room for complexity, mystery, and humor. I see clients in person in North Phoenix and by telehealth throughout Arizona. My fee is $200 for a 60-minute session, and I’m happy to work out a sliding-scale fee when needed. Out-of-network superbills are available, and Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds may also be used. If something here resonates, I invite you to reach out for a complimentary consultation. We can meet, talk about what brings you to therapy, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.

My Practice & Services

I work with adults in person in Phoenix, and I offer telehealth throughout Arizona. I offer a free 20-minute consultation so we can talk a little about what brings you to therapy and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. My standard fee is $200 for a 60-minute session, and I reserve a meaningful portion of my practice for sliding-scale clients. I can also provide superbills for possible out-of-network insurance reimbursement, and Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds may be used for therapy.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

I believe the relationship between therapist and client is at the heart of good therapy. You should feel understood, respected, and able to be fully yourself—not like you need to say the right thing, perform therapy correctly, or fit yourself into someone else’s idea of who you should be. I bring training and experience to the room, but I don’t assume that makes me the expert on you. My job is to listen closely, be honest with you, notice what may be difficult to see from the inside, and stay curious with you about what we find. The best therapy, to me, is a real relationship in which there is enough trust to explore what is painful, complicated, contradictory, or not yet understood. Sometimes that leads to very practical change. Sometimes it opens deeper questions. Usually, it’s some of both. And because the relationship matters so much, fit matters. You don’t need a therapist who is right for everyone. You need one who is right for you.
