What's My Approach to Therapy?

Hi, I’m Dr. Renqvist. When life throws you a curveball (or several, let’s be honest), it can disrupt your whole routine and leave you wondering how to regain your footing. With all the challenges and responsibilities most of us have these days, it can be hard to figure out when and how to fix what’s not working. Together, we will find a way for you to regain your balance and move forward in a way that feels good for you. Sometimes that means doing therapy one-on-one, and sometimes that means doing therapy with your partner so you can overcome life’s challenges as a team that is stronger together than apart. Either way, I want to help you do more than just tolerate your daily life. I want to help you reconnect with yourself and the people you love, navigate changes with confidence, and get more enjoyment out of life.

Whether you’re struggling to overcome a difficult past, communication or relationship issues, sleepless nights, or overwhelming stress related to life changes, there are scientifically proven ways to get there. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I am an expert in helping people reduce emotional pain and make the changes they want to make. I have extensive training and 16 years of experience providing evidence-based therapy. I help people (individuals and couples) improve communication and closeness, increase confidence navigating life changes, improve sleep, and achieve a healthy life balance. I use evidence-based strategies and compassionate accountability to help people reach the goals that are most important to them. I will help you figure out how to make the changes you want to make. If you’re not sure what you need, I can help you figure it out. Learn more about my education and training background.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I recommend finding a therapist that has training in effective approaches and makes you feel understood and supported. For the first part, there are many scientifically supported approaches to therapy (you can find a list of "gold standard" treatments via internet search). Finding a therapist who makes your feel understood and supported can be a little harder. There is a lot of research that suggests that your sense of connection with your therapist is a big factor in whether or not therapy is helpful. Therapy should be a place where you feel comfortable enough to share how you truly think and feel, without fear of judgment. I encourage you to look until you find a therapist who offers both credibility and a sense of emotional support and safety.
