My Approach to Therapy

All of us have experienced loss, anger, loss of control, impulsiveness, and communication problems. If these experiences are discussed in a safe environment with a competent therapist, they can be used to mature and create the life we want. If ignored with distractions such as overwork, alcoholdrugs, food, sex, and internetTV, unresolved issues can remain stuck in our bodies and minds, wreaking havoc at unexpected times (for example, a sudden panic attack). Clients need a therapist who has done a significant amount of their own inner worktherapy. As Carl Jung once stated, "It's not what you know that heals your clients, it's who you are." Authenticity cannot be faked....most people can sense this quickly. I am committed to being real, as well as actively involved in my clients' growth process. I have also done my own personal psychotherapy as I believe this is necessary to be effective in counseling. How can you help clients if you haven't experienced your own individual counseling? Many clients have commented on their preference for my ability to balance talking with listening. I don't "just sit there and listen, nodding my head occasionally." I am fully engaged, providing honest feedback and support.

My Practice & Services

I do not accept insurance; however, some plans (especially PPOs) will partially or even completely reimburse clients after submitting an invoice which I am happy to provide. Please check with your insurance carrier and ask explicitly for "out of network" reimbursement. My standard fee is $185.00 per 50-minute session. I also offer a 15-minute, $50 consultation to ensure that we are a compatible match. If we are not an ideal match, I'm happy to refer you to someone who may be more appropriate for you.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have extensive experience working with individuals diagnosed with bipolar disordermanic depression. I also have experience working with individual males and associated challenges such as an inability to articulate and express emotions, spiritual emergence and intuitive development, and relationship issues.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

The purpose of psychotherapy is to provide an environment that feels safe enough for clients to take risks and be honest about their lives. This can include learning to forgive ourselves and others, healing relationships, and creating the kind of life we truly desire.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I feel privileged to be part of my clients' growth. It is an honor to be in the presence of someone who has the courage to share their innermost thoughts, dreams, fears, and secrets. When a client is being truly vulnerable and honest, it is an incredible process to be a part of. There is nothing I would rather do.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help

One thing incredibly important is to know where someone wants to be in their life. More specifically, what do they want their life to look like (relationships, finances, confidence, emotional experience, etc.)? Having even one goal can add to motivation to change.
