My Approach to Therapy
Starting therapy can feel like a significant but difficult step. You may know that something in your life is not working the way you would like, yet not be sure how to change it. Perhaps you feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, angry, stuck, or disconnected. You may be struggling in your relationships, questioning your direction, or noticing patterns that seem to repeat despite your best efforts.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with extensive training in contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice. I offer a warm, thoughtful, and nonjudgmental space where you can slow down, feel understood, and begin to make sense of what you are experiencing.
Together, we will explore not only what is happening in your life now, but also the experiences, relationships, emotions, and beliefs that may be influencing how you feel and respond today. My goal is to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, recognize patterns that may be holding you back, and create lasting changes that feel meaningful and true to who you are.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), relationship difficulties, and feelings of stagnation in their personal or professional lives. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I believe that meaningful change becomes possible when you feel safe enough to be honest, curious, and fully yourself.
My Practice & Services
Originally from Germany, I bring a cross-cultural perspective to my clinical work and am fluent in German and English. In addition to my clinical practice, I teach and supervise at the Karen Horney Clinic and serve on the faculty of the American Chinese Psychoanalytic Association, contributing to the training and development of fellow clinicians.
In addition to my extensive psychoanalytic training, I hold an advanced degree in psychology from Germany, have undertaken the Trauma Treatment Certification Training (CCTP), and completed a fellowship at the Personality Disorders Institute, further deepening my expertise in trauma and complex personality dynamics.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I specialize in assisting clients navigate separation and divorce, which can bring profound feelings of loss, uncertainty, and anger I help clients process these emotions and find a path forward. When children are involved, I support parents in navigating co-parenting challenges and fostering constructive communication in their children’s best interests.
My Role as a Therapist
My approach is rooted in psychoanalytic therapy, with an emphasis on understanding and changing longstanding patterns that may no longer serve you. However, during periods of acute stress, particularly separation or divorce, our focus can shift toward practical, concrete support to alleviate distress, navigate immediate challenges, and help you regain a sense of stability.
