I got into this work because I believe that recovery from addictions and compulsive behaviors happens in many different ways. I support clients through their 12-step work, but, more often, I work with those for whom 12-step approaches don't fit or aren't sufficient. In my experience, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) can target addictive and compulsive behaviors and profoundly change how we experience our lives. When those behaviors complicate or jeopardize relationships, I help couples move through the confusion and pain using the Gottman Method, as well as DBT for Couples. For many of us, trauma is at the core of addictive or compulsive behaviors, and I use eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)), and DBT for Trauma to address what may lie at the root of self-destructive patterns.
