My Approach to Therapy

My lived experiences as a social worker, mother, law school graduate, and university professor and administrator inform my worldview and clinical approach. My therapeutic approach is person-centered and incorporates a social justice and trauma informed lens to meet clients’ unique needs, identities, and roles. As an Afro-Dominicana, I bring a relational and culturally humble perspective into cultivating an engaged and collaborative approach with my clients. If clients are open, I also integrate contemplative practices such as: 1) mindfulness to explore and reflect on individual, intergenerational, and collective conditioned responses; 2) somatic exercises to interrupt habitual responses and support regulation, and 3) ancestral and acquired lineages to support inner wisdom, belonging, and resilience. I welcome feedback, joy, and celebrations of accomplishments as part of the therapeutic process. I work with all levels of Spanish fluency and capacity, including non-Spanish speakers.
