My Approach to Helping
I will seek feedback from you to see how the fit feels for you. I work with teens to seniors, including college students, looking for help with relationship or parenting challenges, addiction, anxietyOCD, insomnia, depression, traumaPTSD, shame, perfectionism, and a wide range of issues. I am also a certified couples' therapist. I completed my training at Harvard Medical School through their programs at VA Boston and Cambridge Health Alliance. I mostly use CBT, DBT, IFS and AEDP methods.
I draw on evolutionary psychology to understand how our feelings (e.g., anxiety) evolved to push us to take survival-oriented actions that we may or may not want to take. I use mindfulness to help gain awareness of feelings and make new choices. I have been described as an empathic, nonjudgmental therapist who brings warmth and respect to the therapy room.
More personally, I am a parent and understand family relationship challenges. I enjoy meditating and spending time in nature — rock-climbing, hiking and cycling. I grew up in Europe in a diverse family and bring a multicultural sensitivity to therapy. I conduct therapy in French and Spanish as well, languages I am fluent in. https:www.dremilymanove.com
