My Approach to Therapy

I work with adults in Austin, TX dealing with anxiety, burnout, and childhood trauma. Many of the people I work with are already deeply self-aware and understand their patterns clearly. What they haven't found yet is a way to actually shift those patterns. That's the work I specialize in: helping you build a relationship with the part of you still holding onto an old pattern, so it can discover it has other options. My approach is founded in person-centered therapy and focused on the relational. I believe real change happens through the relationship itself, through being genuinely seen and understood, not just through technique. From there, I work integratively and experientially, drawing on parts work (such as Internal Family Systems-IFS), EMDR, somatic approaches, and mindfulness. These approaches aid in a process called memory reconsolidation. Memory reconsolidation is when we bring an old emotional truth into focus and hold it next to a new one long enough for something in the brain to actually revise its expectations and patterns. I've spent the past five years focused on learning memory reconsolidation approaches because talk therapy alone isn't enough for most of us. I don't believe one tool fits every person or moment, so I stay flexible and use what actually fits you rather than running everyone through the same process. I work with neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, polyamorous, and ethically non-monogamous (ENM) adults in Texas who are seeking grounded, affirming care.

My Role as a Therapist

I have come to understand my role as a therapist is based on two things I believe deeply. One is that people already carry within themselves what they need to grow and that growth happens best in relationship. A solid and healthy relationship allows a person feel safe enough for real change to happen. I know from personal experience that the theraputic relationship is often the first time we experience this kind of safety. The other is that my role is to support you to know and trust yourself so that you can live authentically. Nothing gives me more joy then seeing someone learn to name their needs, speak their boundaries, and trust themselves.
