My Approach to Therapy

Dr. Falconer believes that humans experience their most profound hurt, and their greatest healing, through relationships. Real, lasting change occurs when we restore our connections both with others and within ourselves. Dr. Falconer brings this perspective into her work by using the therapeutic relationship as a backdrop for healing and restoring past hurts. Central to her approach is helping clients uncover and understand the recurring patterns that contribute to their emotional distress. By bringing these unconscious themes into the light and honoring each individual’s lived experience, Dr. Falconer’s goal is to work alongside her clients to cultivate deeper self-awareness, whole-person wellness, and long-term empowerment. Her practice is grounded in evidence-based therapies, allowing her to tailor each session to her clients’ unique, immediate needs. With psychodynamic theory as her foundation, Dr. Falconer integrates modalities such as interpersonal psychotherapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness techniques. These approaches help augment and deepen the therapy process and facilitate symptom reduction. Dr. Falconer provides evidence-based care for adults (18+) experiencing mental health challenges and major life transitions. Her primary areas of clinical focus include anxiety, depression, health psychology, relational difficulties, trauma, grief, and loss. Throughout her doctoral training, Dr. Falconer completed clinical work across diverse settings, specializing in college student psychotherapy, medical center support for chronic concerns, couples therapy, and neuropsychological assessments. She completed her predoctoral internship in health psychology within the VA hospital system, treating complex medical conditions and co-occurring mental health challenges in veterans. At the postdoctoral level, Dr. Falconer obtained specialized expertise in geriatric psychology, supporting older adults as they navigate later-life challenges such as caregiver burnout, loneliness, and age-related health adjustments. Dr. Falconer maintains clinical hours Monday through Friday, offering daytime appointments alongside limited early morning and evening availability. To accommodate busy schedules, she also provides convenient, insurance-covered telehealth sessions.
