My Approach to Therapy

I’m Darrett Jerome Burr, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) specializing in compulsive sexual behavior, trauma, and trauma recovery. I serve clients online. You’ve done this before. You commit, things get better for a stretch, and then something cracks. You’re back in the behavior, the obsession, the relationship you swore you’d leave alone. Quieter about it this time. More ashamed. More convinced something is fundamentally wrong with you. The behavior isn’t the whole story. Sex addiction and codependency can look like behavior problems on the surface, but underneath the acting out, the obsessing, the patterns you can’t seem to outrun, there is almost always trauma that never got a chance to heal. Your nervous system learned to survive a long time ago, and the strategies that kept you alive then are the same ones costing you everything now. Recovery isn’t about willpower or stronger boundaries. It’s about finally treating what’s actually driving the behavior. I’ve spent more than sixteen years specializing in sex addiction, codependency, and trauma recovery, and I understand this work from both sides. I specialize in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), a modality that works directly with how trauma is stored in the body and brain, not just how it sounds in your head. If you’re tired of starting over, book a first session, and let’s begin.

My Practice & Services

My practice is 100% online, offering telehealth individual and group counseling sessions. Now enrolling: Men's Sexual Addiction Accountability Group, Sundays 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. ET (12:00 to 1:30 p.m. PT).

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I get to help people become their best selves and learn to have a life worth living despite adversity.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Recovery from any maladaptive coping strategy or mood disorder requires patience, time and commitment. I recommend weekly therapy and reevaluation regularly to determine effectiveness.
