My Approach to Therapy

Many people come to therapy already understanding a great deal about themselves. You may know which patterns keep repeating, where they came from, and even what you wish you could do differently. The frustrating part is that insight does not always make those patterns easier to change when stress, conflict, fear, or uncertainty takes over. My approach is active, collaborative, and focused on helping you turn understanding into meaningful change. I work with adults, couples, and families on relationship patterns, life transitions, anxiety and stress, grief and loss, divorce, identity, boundaries, and personal growth. Rather than applying the same formula to everyone, I pay attention to what keeps the problem going, what capacities may need to develop, and what kinds of experiences are most likely to help something shift. My work is informed by systems and strategic therapy, attachment, mindfulness, experiential approaches, and clinical hypnosis. I tend to work especially well with thoughtful, psychologically curious people who want more than short-term symptom relief and are interested in developing greater flexibility, agency, and clarity in how they live and relate. My Practice & Services

My practice is based in Auburn and Roseville, California, where I work with adults, couples, and families. Sessions are by appointment, and most of my work is in person. I take an active, collaborative approach to therapy. Rather than only talking about what is wrong, I pay attention to the patterns that keep problems going, what happens when those patterns are activated, and what may need to develop for something to genuinely change. Depending on the person and the problem, our work may include relational and systems approaches, experiential exercises, mindfulness, strategic interventions, and clinical hypnosis. Clinical hypnosis can be incorporated into psychotherapy when it is a good fit for the client and their goals. I use it as one tool among many to help clients work with attention, expectation, emotional responses, habits, and other patterns that may be difficult to change through insight alone. I am a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) #158498), employed by Known Therapy House, and practicing under the supervision of a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). What Therapy With Me Is Like

I am not a therapist who sits quietly and leaves you to figure everything out on your own. I will listen closely, ask direct questions, point out patterns I notice, and help us stay focused on what is actually happening rather than only talking around it. At times I may slow things down, challenge an assumption, invite you to try something different in the room and out there in the real world, or help you notice what happens just before an old response takes over. The goal is not to tell you how to live, but to help you develop more freedom in how you respond when the situations that usually pull you into familiar patterns show up again.

Groups I Work With

I work with adults navigating relationship difficulties, anxiety and stress, grief and loss, separation or divorce, major life transitions, identity questions, and personal growth. I also work with couples who feel stuck in recurring conflict, emotional distance, communication problems, or uncertainty about their relationship, as well as families working through conflict, transitions, and changing relationships. I especially enjoy working with thoughtful, psychologically curious adults who have insight into their patterns but want help creating meaningful, lasting change. I also work with men, people in recovery or rebuilding life after addiction, and clients interested in incorporating clinical hypnosis into psychotherapy.
