My Approach to Therapy

My path into this work didn’t come from one place; it came from a deep curiosity about what truly helps people change. I hold a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Maine. For more than two decades, I have supported individuals navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction recovery, life transitions, women’s issues, and the complex challenges that can arise in the middle passages of life. Throughout my career, I have been committed to helping people move beyond survival, reconnect with themselves, and create lives aligned with their deepest values.

My Practice & Services

Professional Counseling My work is grounded in my training as a Licensed Professional Counselor, with a foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and mind-body approaches. Over the years, I've come to understand that lasting healing involves more than insight alone. It also asks us to reconnect with the wisdom of the body and create new ways of relating to ourselves and the world around us. Shamanic Counseling My personal and professional journey eventually led me to the study of shamanic traditions. Rather than replacing psychotherapy, these teachings expanded my understanding of healing through ceremony, nature, creative expression, and embodied practice. Shamanic counseling is offered as a separate service. Some people feel called to begin here, while others choose it as a natural next step in their work. Together, we'll explore what approach best supports your journey. The Threshold Process: Integrative Therapy, Ceremony & Embodied Transformation The Threshold Process brings these paths together. It isn't therapy as usual. It is a focused, time-limited process that integrates psychotherapy, mind-body practices, ceremony, and shamanic wisdom to help you move through what has been keeping you stuck. You'll learn to understand your patterns, reconnect with your inner wisdom, release what no longer serves you, and embody lasting change. This isn't about staying in the process. It's about crossing a threshold into a more authentic, connected way of living.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Research consistently shows that the strongest predictor of successful therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist. Trust, safety, and a genuine connection don't happen all at once—they develop over time. The therapeutic relationship is unique. While I hope you'll feel comfortable and understood, I'm not here to be your best friend or simply agree with you. My role is to be a guide, facilitator, and partner in your growth. Sometimes that means asking difficult questions, gently challenging old patterns, or helping you see yourself from a different perspective. Growth often requires courage. There will be moments that feel affirming and moments that feel uncomfortable. Both can be valuable. If something doesn't feel right in our work together, I encourage you to bring it into the conversation. Some of the most meaningful healing happens when we explore the relationship itself with curiosity, honesty, and compassion.

Groups I Work With

I work with adults who are ready to move beyond simply coping and begin creating meaningful, lasting change. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, burnout, or a growing sense that something in their lives no longer fits. Often they've already done a great deal of work on themselves. They've read the books, listened to the podcasts, been to therapy, and understand why they think and feel the way they do. Yet they still find themselves repeating familiar patterns or feeling disconnected from themselves. Healing isn't simply about feeling better—it's about living more fully, more authentically, and with greater connection. Together, we'll explore what approach best supports your journey. For some, that is professional counseling grounded in evidence-based psychotherapy and mind-body practices. For others, it may also include shamanic counseling. These are offered as separate services and can be explored independently or alongside one another, depending on your goals, interests, and where you are in your journey.
