My Approach to Therapy

My name is Chris McClendon. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I specialize in integrating the spiritual and physical worlds from a Christian perspective. This means I value the whole person. I understand the needs of both our human and spiritual sides. I help blend these unique parts of you so you can become the best version of yourself. My experience includes serving as a lead counselor for the Fulton County DUI Court Program. In addition, I volunteered at multiple juvenile detention facilities, working alongside at-risk teenagers. My experience also includes working with individuals to address a variety of life challenges, such as stress, depression concerns, social anxiety, childhood and adult trauma, anger management, relationship challenges, general decision-making, and more. Our minds are like gardens, pleasant places to visit and relax. A garden left unkept will eventually grow weeds and become unpleasant to visit. Similarly, when our thoughts and emotions become unpleasant, this signals that there is work to be done. Therefore, as gardeners of our minds, it is important that we maintain our “mental garden.” We must cultivate our minds by eradicating weeds (unhealthy thoughts and behaviors). We must fertilize our minds by planting new, healthy thoughts and behaviors. Lastly, we must prune our minds (keep them healthy) by continuing to maintain our mental gardens. This increases fruitfulness and growth and makes our mental gardens pleasant places to relax and find joy once again. All you need to bring with you is your willingness to address your challenges. I have been divinely called for this moment. “The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him (or her) who is weary” (Isaiah 50:4). All counselors add something unique to the mental health field. I hope you and I have the opportunity to work together. If not, then I pray you find what you are looking for in your search. “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors, there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14). I hope to meet you soon. God bless. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, and other forms of therapy that would be appropriate for an individual. My goal is to modify my approach to meet my clients’ needs. I am here to provide support along the way. I am here to guide you through the process of reaching a growth mindset.
