Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
Is it a good fit? A provider may have all the right specialties you are looking for, but does the personality work for you? The national average for most people seeking therapy is that they will try three providers before they find the one that feels right. Go in and try it out, but don't waste your time and money if you don't think you are going to be able to open up and trust the provider over time.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
Although this is a common question we get, there is no definitive answer for everyone. Most people are in therapy between 7-15 sessions. Determinants for whether it is shorter or longer include the number of issues we are dealing with, degree of insight, and willingness to work on issues outside of therapy.
