What's My Approach to Therapy?
I use a collaborative approach, utilizing Bowen's family systems theory and the development of genograms to help clients see behavioral and communication patterns in their families that have impacted them generationally. Patterns identified as positive are reinforced, and those identified as negative are analyzed so that behavioral changes are made to interrupt these negative patterns. I engage reflective listening skills to help clients see and understand the positive ways they have worked through their concerns in the past. I work with clients to develop interventions that they can readily implement, and I help them identify barriers to change if they feel they are not progressing. I identify clients' strengths and empower them to see how they have the ability to develop coping strategies and work through issues as they arise. Finally, I frequently request client feedback to determine the effectiveness of the therapeutic process and interventions.
