My Approach to Therapy

You don’t need someone to tell you how to live your life. Sometimes you need someone who will really listen, help you make sense of what is happening, and give you an honest perspective when you need one. I’m Bryan Truelove, and I’ve been helping people navigate life, relationships, anxiety, depression, anger, and difficult transitions since 2008. My approach to counseling is comfortable, straightforward, and practical. You can come in and talk about what is really going on without worrying about saying the right thing or having everything figured out. We’ll look at what is working, what isn’t, and what may be keeping you stuck. I’ll listen closely, ask questions, challenge you when it can be helpful, and work alongside you to find practical ways to create change. Therapy is not about me making decisions for you. It is about helping you understand yourself and your situation more clearly so you can make the decisions that are right for your life. Whether you are struggling personally, in your relationships, or simply know that something needs to change, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. Sometimes a good conversation with the right person is where change begins.

My Practice & Services

Winter Garden Wellness is a locally owned counseling practice in downtown Winter Garden serving children, teens, adults, couples, and families. Our goal is to make counseling feel comfortable, approachable, and useful in everyday life. Our counselors bring different areas of experience and therapeutic approaches, allowing clients to find someone who is a good fit for their individual needs and personality. We provide counseling for concerns including anxiety, depression, relationships and marriage, family challenges, parenting, life transitions, stress, and other challenges that can arise throughout different stages of life. In addition to traditional counseling, we offer mental health assessments for school-age children. Clients can meet with us in person at our Winter Garden office or virtually from anywhere in Florida. We are a private-pay practice and accept HSA and FSA payments. We also offer complimentary phone consultations for those who would like to ask questions or learn more before scheduling. At Winter Garden Wellness, we believe counseling does not have to feel overly clinical or intimidating. We want you to have a comfortable place to talk honestly, feel heard, and receive practical support that fits your life. It is all part of our belief in providing counseling for every age and stage.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Finding the right counselor is about more than the letters after someone’s name. Credentials and experience are important, but so is finding someone you feel comfortable talking to and can trust. Look for a therapist who has experience with the concerns bringing you to counseling, communicates in a way that works for you, and provides an environment where you can be honest without feeling judged. It is also important to consider the therapist’s approach. Some therapists primarily listen and help you process your experiences, while others are more interactive and offer feedback, questions, and practical strategies. Neither approach is right for everyone. Think about what you want from counseling and do not be afraid to ask a potential therapist how they typically work with clients. Most importantly, pay attention to the connection. You should feel heard, respected, and comfortable enough to talk about difficult things. It may take a session or two to determine whether someone is the right fit, and it is okay to choose another therapist if the connection is not there. Finding the right counselor can make a significant difference in what you get out of therapy.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Like everyone, I have faced my own challenges along the way. I was born with normal vision, but a genetic condition began gradually taking my sight in my early 20s. Today, I can see little more than shapes and shades of gray. Living with blindness has shaped the way I approach both life and counseling. It has taught me to focus on solutions and possibilities, even when circumstances themselves cannot be changed. I believe there are things in life we may not be able to control, but there are very few situations that cannot be improved in some meaningful way. Blindness has also taught me the value of truly listening. Without many of the visual distractions others naturally experience, I have learned to pay close attention to words, tone, and what may be underneath what someone is saying. For many therapists, listening is an important professional skill. For me, it has also become a way of life.
