My Approach to Therapy

If you’re reading this, something has stopped working. Maybe it’s the effort. You’ve been pushing through school, work, a relationship, or your own brain for so long that pushing through has become the only setting you have, and lately it costs more than it gives. Or maybe you’re a parent watching a kid who used to be fine go quiet, or sharp, or somewhere you can’t reach. You don’t need to be in crisis to be here. You just need to be tired of handling it alone. I’m a therapist who works with teens, young adults, couples, and people with attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) and autism. Before that, I was a professional double bassist and orchestra director, and I spent years with talented, overloaded people who had been told their whole lives to try harder. I learned that nobody gets better by trying harder. They get better when someone helps them hear what’s actually going on underneath the noise. That’s what I’m interested in: what your patterns protect, what they cost you, and what you’d rather be doing with that energy. Here’s what working with me looks like. Our first session is mostly me listening and asking better questions than you’ve been asked before. From there, we get specific. We figure out what you actually want to change, not what someone else wants you to change, and we build toward it with skills you can use between sessions, not just insights you admire on the drive home. For couples, that means slowing the fight down enough to see what each of you is actually asking for. For neurodivergent clients, it means working with how your brain runs instead of against it. I’ll be honest with you, including when it’s uncomfortable. I’ll also notice what’s going right, because most people who find their way to therapy have stopped giving themselves credit for anything. And we’ll check in regularly on whether this is helping, because your time is worth more than a weekly habit. If any of this landed, reach out. I’ll answer within a day, and the first conversation is just a conversation.

My Practice & Services

Bunte Behavioral Health is a solo practice, which means the person you email is the person you’ll meet with. No intake coordinator, no handoff. Sessions are 60 minutes, either in person at my office near Inverness in Englewood or via secure video anywhere in Colorado. Many clients mix the two, depending on the week. I see clients Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with evening and weekend slots available. Getting started is simple. Reach out through this profile or at benjamin@buntehealth.com, and I’ll respond within 24 hours. I offer a free 20-minute phone call first so we can both decide whether it’s a fit. If we move forward, you’ll get intake paperwork online before our first session so we can spend that hour talking, not filling things out. I don’t bill insurance directly. Sessions are $185. I offer a sliding scale for a limited number of clients, and I use Mentaya, which checks your out-of-network benefits for free and files reimbursement claims on your behalf. Many clients with PPO plans get a meaningful portion back.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

In my office, nobody has to perform. A teen can say the thing they’ve never said out loud. A couple can stop arguing long enough to hear what they’ve both been asking for. Someone with ADHD can admit how exhausting it is to be told they’re “so capable” while drowning. And then, slowly, something loosens. I love this work because I needed it myself and didn’t always get it. Chronic pain taught me what it’s like to be a problem other people want to solve quickly. I’d rather be the person who stays. Mostly, I love that the people who find me are far stronger than they’ve been giving themselves credit for. Helping someone see that is the best job I’ve had.
