What's My Approach to Therapy?

You may look capable, self-aware, and put together—but still feel stuck in patterns that do not fully make sense. Many of my clients have been to therapy before. They understand their history. They can explain why they feel the way they do. And yet, the same patterns continue to show up: overthinking, self-doubt, emotional disconnection, difficulty in relationships, or feeling responsible for others. This is often the impact of emotional neglect and relational or complex trauma. These experiences do not just live in your thoughts. They shape how your mind and body respond. You may find yourself reacting in ways that feel inconsistent, disconnected, or hard to control—even when you know better. My work focuses on helping you move beyond insight and begin to feel different. I specialize in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), a trauma-informed approach that works with how these patterns were originally formed. Rather than just talking about what happened, we work with the experiences that shaped beliefs like: * I have to handle everything on my own * My needs don’t matter * It is safer not to feel too much Over time, this allows your internal experience to feel more steady, connected, and consistent—so you are not just understanding yourself, but actually experiencing change. My approach is relational, grounded, and depth-oriented. I take time to understand your story, connect the dots between past and present, and create a space where your internal experience is met with clarity, steadiness, and care. I offer EMDR in both traditional weekly sessions and longer, focused intensives for clients who want to move through deeper work more efficiently. This work may be a good fit if you: * feel stuck despite insight * overthink or replay things constantly * feel responsible for others * are hard on yourself in ways others don’t see * feel disconnected, numb, or inconsistent internally I provide virtual therapy for adults in Michigan and Ohio. If you’re considering this work, you’re welcome to start with a free, confidential consultation to explore whether it feels like a good fit for you.

My Practice & Services

Many of the people I work with are used to being the steady one. You are thoughtful, capable, and often the person others rely on. You have likely spent years understanding yourself, reflecting on your patterns, and trying to create change in ways that make sense. And yet, something has not fully shifted. You may still feel pulled in different directions internally—clear about what you want one moment, then unsure, shut down, or disconnected the next. You may notice a gap between what you understand and how you actually feel or respond in your day-to-day life. This is where our work begins. Rather than focusing only on insight, we pay attention to how your experience is organized internally—how different emotional responses, reactions, and patterns developed over time, and how they continue to show up now. Many clients find it meaningful to have their experiences understood in a way that feels coherent and grounded, where the patterns that once felt confusing begin to make sense in the context of what they lived through. From there, we begin to work at a deeper level. Using EMDR, we focus on the experiences that shaped these patterns—often subtle, cumulative moments where you felt unseen, unsupported, or alone. As those experiences are worked through, your system no longer has to respond in the same automatic ways. Over time, clients often notice: * less internal conflict or second-guessing * more clarity about what they feel and need * a greater sense of steadiness and continuity in themselves * less pressure to manage everything alone * more ease in relationships, without over-functioning This work is collaborative and paced with care. We move at a level your system can integrate, without pushing or overwhelming. You do not need to have everything figured out before starting. You also do not need to prove that your experiences were bad enough. If something in you has been carrying more than it should have had to, that is enough. I offer both weekly EMDR sessions and intensives, depending on the depth and pace you’re looking for.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Many of the people I work with do not initially describe their experience as trauma. They describe patterns that are difficult to change, even with insight. I specialize in helping adults who are navigating: -Emotional Neglect and Relational Trauma- * growing up feeling unseen, unsupported, or emotionally alone * difficulty trusting your own feelings or needs * a sense that something important was missing, even if nothing looked obviously wrong -Overthinking, Rumination, and Internal Pressure- * replaying conversations or decisions long after they happen * needing to understand everything in order to feel settled * feeling mentally exhausted but unable to turn your mind off -Chronic Self-Doubt and Harsh Self-Criticism- * feeling not good enough despite external success * second-guessing yourself in ways others may not see * a persistent sense of being behind or getting it wrong -People-Pleasing and Over-Responsibility- * feeling responsible for other people?s emotions or outcomes * difficulty saying no or setting limits * prioritizing others while losing connection with yourself -Emotional Disconnection, Numbness, or Inconsistency- * feeling disconnected from your emotions or body * shifting between caring deeply and feeling shut down * not feeling like a consistent or steady version of yourself -Relationship Patterns That Feel Confusing or One-Sided- * feeling distant, resentful, or less like yourself in relationships * difficulty expressing needs without guilt or anxiety * patterns of self-abandonment to maintain connection -Shame That Does Not Fully Make Sense- * a quiet sense that something is wrong with you * difficulty feeling at ease, even when things are going well * feeling exposed, inadequate, or easily affected by perceived judgment -Effects of Sexual Trauma or Boundary Violations- * difficulty feeling safe or present in your body * disconnection or shutdown during intimacy * confusion about consent, desire, or boundaries -Feeling Stuck Despite Previous Therapy- * understanding your patterns but not feeling different * insight without lasting change * a sense that something deeper has not been reached These experiences are not random, and they are not character flaws. They are patterns your system developed to adapt to earlier environments and relationships. This work focuses on helping those patterns shift at their root so your internal experience begins to feel more clear, steady, and aligned with who you are now.
