What's My Approach to Therapy?
Hello, I'm Angela,
I’m an associate therapist specializing in trauma-informed care and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). My experience serving in the military deeply shaped my perspective on mental health, resilience, and the importance of compassionate connection. I understand how stress, trauma, and transitions can impact every part of a person’s life, and I bring that awareness into the therapeutic space with empathy and respect. With a warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive approach, I help clients process difficult experiences, build resilience, and reconnect with their sense of safety and identity. Grounded in evidence-based practices and cultural humility, I honor the unique social, spiritual, and generational factors that shape each person’s experience of healing.
In sessions, I combine clinical expertise with a touch of humor and authenticity, creating a space where clients feel comfortable being fully themselves. I believe healing happens in relationship, so I strive to foster an environment that balances emotional depth with lightness and hope. My goal is to create a supportive and affirming atmosphere that encourages exploration of both individual and cultural strengths, helping clients move toward meaningful growth while feeling seen, valued, and understood.
In our first session together, my goal is to create a warm, welcoming space where you can feel comfortable and supported. I know that starting therapy can bring up a mix of emotions—hope, uncertainty, and maybe even a little anxiety—so we’ll take things at a pace that feels right for you. During this first meeting, I’ll explain how therapy works, talk about confidentiality, and invite you to share what brings you here and what you’d like to work on. There’s no need to go deep into difficult topics right away; this time is really about getting to know each other and beginning to build trust.
We’ll spend some time exploring what’s been most challenging for you and what you hope to gain from therapy. I bring a mix of compassion, humor, and authenticity into my sessions because I believe healing doesn’t always have to feel heavy—it can also include lightness and connection. By the end of our first meeting, you’ll have a sense of how I work, whether that includes trauma-informed strategies, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), or mindfulness-based approaches. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, supported, and encouraged about taking this important step toward your own healing.
