My Approach to Therapy

You've experienced a lot in your life, and you don't feel like talking to friends or family about it. They just don't understand. Your friendships and relationships are suffering because past experiences get in the way. You miss the connection, the intimacy, but no matter what, you feel disconnected. Emotions run the show. Shame spirals are debilitating. While you may not realize it or understand how, you have the capacity to heal, achieve greater self-awareness, and experience growth. I have devoted my life to helping others cultivate the courage to overcome fear and persevere to have the life they want. You spend hours replaying events in your head. Theres no sleep or rest. Your fuse becomes short with your loved one. Fear keeps you from attending events with family or friends. Your heart races, youre sweating, and your chest tightens; breathing becomes difficult. This happens for no apparent reason. Understand the source of your anxiety and learn how to manage it with support. Take control. Learn new strategies to move you in the direction of your dreams. Theres no reason to stay stuck in fear. Overwhelmed by anxiety, unable to focus or concentrate, exhausted, restless, irritable. Commit to staying the course. Move from fear controlling your every move to showing anxiety whos boss. I help you make sense of all of it. When you show up in my office, I meet you where youre at. I adapt my approach to make sure youre comfortable through the process. Well put it into perspective, so you can have a more meaningful existence. Discover communication skills and strategies to improve your relationships. Ill provide you with tools that allow your brain to heal using your own intellectual and emotional processes. Stay strong and continue reaching out. Take care of your mental fitness. I will assist you in recognizing the influence your past has on your present behavior to break free from self-defeating thoughts and behavior patterns. Using cognitive behavioral techniques or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), well work to reset your mind for a satisfied, fulfilling future. Using a practical approach, I can guide you through developing realistic expectations of yourself and others to have more fulfilling relationships. I specialize in complex trauma, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), grief, anxiety, depression, and distant couples. Are you ready for things to change? Healing starts when you reach out. Call or email me to get started. EMDR and evening appointments are available. Online availability only.

My Practice & Services

As a military veteran, I understand the expectations of military life and the stress it can place on you and your family. My goal is to work with you to build effective ways to manage this lifestyle without impeding the military mission. I help veterans who experience constant worry release unnecessary anxiety and get their life back. My experience includes trauma, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), anxiety, relationship issues, divorce, and law enforcement and first responder concerns. I provide unconditional acceptance and support, and I work with you in a way that feels emotionally safe and at your own pace. Using a practical approach, I will help you heal wounds from the past so you can live a happier, more fulfilled life. Minds can be put back together. Emotions can be understood. Theyre what make us human. I know you may feel as if it wont work, but what if it does? Have courage, take the first step and reach out today!

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Humans are unique. We have these things called emotions. Those emotions can make a mess of our life. They can make our life chaotic and out of control. On the other hand, they add depth and provide a great sense of joy. Emotions are the reasons our attempts at changing our life and behavior fail. Simply having more knowledge about a subject, such as healthy eating or budgeting, doesn't produce results. Adding knowledge does not translate into action. Unlocking our emotions to motivate change is one key to success. Understanding how to make lasting change is key. We must identify what's under the surface and what?s driving us. Not understanding what?s beneath the surface is like allowing someone to take the steering wheel while you're in the back seat. You don't know where you're going and have no control where you'll end up. By defining what matters to us, we have a framework to make our decisions and guide our life. Those values become our roadmap to make sure we end up where we want to go. This roadmap allows us to eliminate things that prevent us from healing and reaching our goals. Finally, my favorite part of healing ... taking action. We must implement small attainable change to end up at our destination. When you're on a hike, do you take long steps when climbing a hill? Or small steps? Taking small steps conserves energy and gives us momentum. Small steps allow us to reach the top. I'm all about working smarter, not harder. Making the complex simple. My goal is finding the most efficient and effective strategies for healing. I?m not talking about a short cut, but the most logical way to navigate emotions and use them to get where we want to be. Let me be your partner on your journey to a better you. Reach out now to start the journey to lasting change.
