My Approach to Helping

Many people come to therapy feeling lost, uncertain, or disconnected from who they are. They are caught between who they have been and who they want to become. Adam Bowen believes that the important work centers on that quest for meaning and purpose, the space of uncertainty, and the pull toward authenticity. He believes that therapy is a space to slow down, explore what truly matters, and rediscover your sense of direction.

During your time together, you will experience therapy as a collaborative exploration meant to help you become curious, be honest, and build a life that feels like yours. Together, you’ll make sense of what’s been holding you back and help you build a life that feels grounded, authentic, and genuinely your own.

At Foundations Counseling, Adam Bowen works with a wide variety of clients who may be seeking services that include:
· Individual counseling – anxiety, trauma, shame, perfectionism, assertiveness, authenticity, identity issues, men’s issues
· Relationship and couples counseling – communication, couples counseling, pre-marital counseling, non-traditional relationships, sex therapy, abusive patterns
· Life transitions – relocation, mid-life crisis, affair recovery, divorce recovery, establishing self, restoring meaning to life, leaving high-control religious groups
· Growth-oriented counseling – athletic performance, meaning and purpose, burnout, quarterlife crisis, self-actualization

Adam Bowen has a Master of Arts in Education degree specializing in counselor education with a focus in clinical mental health from Virginia Tech University. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, with minors in philosophy, sociology, and Italian, from Virginia Tech University. Adam utilizes techniques from existential psychology, person-centered therapy, and psychodynamic therapy.
