My Approach to Therapy

Through counseling, Jamie Smiertelny provides a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their challenges and experience growth. She fosters a nurturing space that encourages healing and personal development. With empathy at the core of her approach, Jamie empowers individuals with the tools they need to transform their lives and create the best possible version of their world. No matter where you are in your journey, Jamie will meet you there and work alongside you to move forward. Jamie holds both a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. Additionally, she has a minor in Family and Consumer Science with a focus on Child Development. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, Jamie tailors her therapeutic methods to best serve the unique needs of each client. She gained valuable experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges at Albany Community Health Clinic and supporting families experiencing homelessness through her work at Family Promise, a nonprofit organization. Jamie has a natural ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, helping clients feel understood and supported. Outside of her work at Foundations Counseling, Jamie enjoys hiking, camping, paddleboarding, painting, reading, playing cards and board games, crocheting, and watching a variety of TV shows and movies. With a spirit of adventure and a genuine openness to others, Jamie is able to quickly establish authentic rapport with her clients, creating a therapeutic relationship built on trust and connection
