You may be doing your best to keep life moving while privately feeling stuck, overwhelmed, unmotivated, or unsure of yourself. Maybe you know what you “should” be doing but have difficulty following through. You may find yourself caught in the same relationship patterns, struggling with anxiety or depression, having difficulty managing attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), working through substance use or recovery, or questioning where you are going in life. Sometimes the problem is clear. Other times, you simply know that something needs to change. I believe therapy can help you understand what is getting in the way while also helping you develop new ways of responding to the challenges in your life. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. I want to understand you as a whole person, not simply as a diagnosis or collection of symptoms. Together, we can look at what is happening in your life now, where certain patterns may have come from, and what might help you move forward. My work is rooted particularly in humanistic, existential, and Jungian perspectives. This means that therapy with me may involve exploring not only symptoms, but also your relationships, past experiences, beliefs about yourself and others, values, and the patterns that shape how you live. Some ways of thinking or coping may have developed for understandable reasons and may even have helped you at one point in your life. We can work together to understand those patterns and determine whether they still serve you. At the same time, I believe insight is most useful when it helps you make meaningful changes in your life. Depending on what you need, I integrate approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, and other evidence-based interventions. For adults with ADHD, I offer a structured cognitive-behavioral approach focused on strengthening executive self-management skills. We can work directly on challenges involving time management, organization, planning, prioritizing, procrastination, getting started on tasks, and following through. We may also address patterns of thinking and emotional obstacles that make it harder to stay motivated and manage everyday responsibilities. The aim is to develop strategies you can practice and apply in your daily life, rather than simply telling you to “try harder” or “be more organized.” Relationships and self-esteem can also be important areas of our work. If you find yourself repeating painful relationship patterns, struggling to communicate your needs, worrying about rejection, or having difficulty setting boundaries, we can explore both where these patterns came from and how you might relate to others differently. If you struggle with self-worth, we can examine the experiences and beliefs that have shaped the way you see yourself while working toward a more compassionate and confident sense of self. I also have a particular interest in meaning, purpose, personal growth, and spirituality. You may be functioning reasonably well on the outside while still wondering what gives your life direction or why something feels missing. If these questions are important to you, therapy can provide a place to explore them. Spirituality can also be part of our work if you want it to be, and I respect each client's individual beliefs and worldview. You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. We can begin with whatever is bringing you in and work from there. My goal is to provide a space where you can speak honestly, better understand yourself, address what is keeping you stuck, and work toward a life that feels more intentional, meaningful, and fulfilling.
Welcome to Walk Good Therapy - where you can find your path away from anxious thoughts, depressive periods, the weight of trauma and suffering, and toward healing. Therapy with me is a journey of exploring and seeking out deeper understanding to help you find strength and clarity. Together, we will dive into your experiences as they've unfolded so far and propel you to expand the picture of what you want your life to look like. I hold a doctorate in clinical psychology from William James College, specializing in child and family psychology. My clinical expertise is in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), identity issues, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), and other stressors. I draw on modalities of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, and family systems. I am a clinical psychologist seeing individual clients in navigating life transitions, stress, identity issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other challenges. I operate from orientations of liberation, social justice, racial justice, empowerment, feminism, and cultural respect. Any point in your life can be a moment of realization—a point when something feels out of place, and you're driven to explore and question what you know and understand about yourself and the world at large. These are the moments when I join you in support of reaching deeper cohesion in how you want to experience yourself and move through the world. I hope we can work together to create a little more ease in your life, so that you feel empowered to Walk Good on the next part of your journey!
It feels like you’re drifting—maybe even lost. You give everything to those around you, yet no one seems to be there to take care of you. It’s as if you’re drowning, and no one notices. The weight of it all makes you feel sick, sometimes so much that you miss work. If one more person asks for something, you might just explode. Your eating habits are all over the place—just last night, you finished an entire pizza. You’re at your breaking point. You’re constantly giving, yet those around you still complain about your attitude. They say: "You’re angry." "You’re too negative." "You don’t take care of yourself." "I’m worried about you." But they don’t see how much you already do. You’ve always taken care of everyone else. And in return? More demands. More expectations. You’re running on empty, and there’s nothing left to give… You’re ready for a change. You long for support—someone outside your usual circle, someone who isn’t constantly asking for more from you. You want to feel secure in your relationships, with strong, healthy boundaries that protect your well-being. You’re ready to be cared for, not just the one always doing the caring. It’s time to reclaim your balance, your peace, and your sense of self. I am Abigail Blackburn. The kind of therapy I practice is called interpersonal or relational therapy. This approach focuses on the relationships in your life—past and present—and how they shape your emotions, behaviors, and sense of self. Our early experiences, especially those in childhood, play a significant role in how we navigate relationships as adults. We often carry unspoken lessons, patterns, and expectations that can impact our ability to connect, communicate, and set boundaries. In interpersonal therapy, we explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion, helping you recognize what’s working, what’s not, and how to create healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Whether you're struggling with conflict, emotional disconnection, or people-pleasing tendencies, this therapy offers a space to understand your relational dynamics and develop new ways of engaging with others. By deepening your awareness and making intentional shifts, you can experience more meaningful connections, a stronger sense of self, and the confidence to set boundaries that honor your needs. Using interpersonal or relational therapy, I can help you reach the change you are looking for. I can help create boundaries and feel secure in your relationships. I can help you explore and protect your well-being. I can help you find that balance and sense of self you are looking for.

I use multiple treatment modalities including Internal Family Systems, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused therapy, and mindfulness. I believe that faith can be an important part of healing and that it should be up to the client how much or little this is worked into their healing. Intimate relationships bring joy and pain to each of us. No deep partnership is without disappointments, confusion, and an experience of minor or major betrayals. Yet these predictable challenges invite us to broaden our capacity for understanding and enter new depths of intimacy as we repair and heal. As a couples therapist with a focus on sexuality, I believe that no matter what the difficulty, we can all reshape our relationships to have the kind of deep connections we yearn for. I specialize in working with couples who are experiencing difficulties in intimacy. These disruptions often emerge from pre-existing patterns that undermine communication and sexual expression. Sexual difficulties are often driven by anxiety and shame that interrupt performance, pleasure, or deep closeness. Communication struggles are shaped by our unique experience of attachment. Attachment and sexuality are intertwined and form the foundation for deep intimacy. I help couples increase their understanding of both and develop the new relationship skills to enhance communication, sexual expression, and deep understanding. Over the last 30 years, I have helped couples, families, and larger social systems discover new approaches to quickly solve previously insurmountable problems. In addition to my work with couples and families, I have developed and led family therapy training and research programs in Massachusetts, Delaware, and Maryland, and assisted public and private health care systems to provide more effective, relationship-focused treatment for their clients. I believe deeply in the human ability to repair and heal. And it’s my experience that when we respond to a relationship challenge by seeking help, we embrace our own important power of growth. My strength-based, brief treatment approach is built on collaboration, curiosity, and humor. All three are key to creating your relational toolkit and deepening your ability to connect to others.
Everyone experiences distressing or overwhelming challenges at different points in life. Many people struggle to manage these inevitable difficulties, get stuck and then subsequently feel defined by their emotional pain. This can negatively impact relationships, ambitions, work and self-worth. I believe in people’s inherent right to live meaningful and joyful lives and in their ability to choose how to respond to life’s challenges. I support my clients through their courageous process of self-exploration and self-compassion. My therapeutic approach involves treating people as a whole: mind, body & spirit. This allows people to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, and with the support of an authentic and collaborative therapeutic relationship, my clients are able to make the changes they want. My areas of specialty include trauma, addictions, depression and anxiety disorders. I am EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trained. EMDR is recognized as a highly effective trauma treatment and allows people to heal from emotional pain that has stemmed from distressing life experiences. “Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional” H.M.
