Have you found yourself walking around with a protective armor, or putting on a mask as you navigate the struggles of daily life? When you have been taught to put your needs last, who is the one who cares for you? As your therapist, I will walk alongside you on your journey to a more authentic you. l take a humanistic approach and culturally competent lens to treatment in which we will process your unique lived experience (and perhaps generations before you) in a judgment-free space while empowering you to be more conscious of your strengths & better equipped to make changes in your life to help you fulfill your goals. I provide virtual individual & family therapy for all ages and specialize in trauma work. I am trained in multiple evidence-based interventions including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. With my training & your experience, we can partner on your journey to healing. Therapy is a place in which you can bring your whole self - your race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, culture and the history that framed who you are today. My grandmother used to say, "Little by little, a bird makes its nest." With this first step to seek therapy, you are one step closer to a more authentic and fulfilling you.
I believe in the power of therapy to transform, heal and reprogram so that you can lead a full life. Are you noticing difficulty in your relationships? Are you overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts? Are you desperate for relief from past trauma? I am committed to providing a compassionate space for you to be heard in order to explore your pain, navigate present difficulties, and find relief from discontent and anxiety. I utilize evidence-based treatment modalities that access both conscious and subconscious issues. To heal from events or programming that have overwhelmed the body and mind, I aim for lasting change which requires neuro-biological shifts, achieved through processes such as hypnotherapy, attachment healing and experiential brain-based processes. I also employ Exposure and Response Prevention techniques for treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I provide a warm and relaxing environment where you can feel comfortable being you. I like to be real and talk to you like we are just two people navigating this crazy life. I'm excited to start our journey inward together and I believe there is hope. The best is yet to come. Whether you are new to therapy and have general questions or have traveled this path before, I am here for a free phone consultation when you're ready.
My name is Dr. Katina Pittman. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia with 16 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress, anxiety, and depression. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey. My therapeutic approach changes based on the needs of each client. Some of the approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered therapy. I believe that our thoughts, feelings, and behavior are connected. I work with individuals in identifying any underlying thoughts and expressing their feelings. Once we identify those thoughts the goal is to use cognitive restructuring to help replace those thoughts and improve feelings. I also educate on healthy self-care and coping skills to improve overall well-being. Clients who are struggling with problem-solving would be educated on effective problem-solving skills. I work primarily with adults who struggle with everyday life stressors such as financial concerns, relationship struggles, family issues, medical concerns, job concerns, or other concerns. I also work with those who are feeling depressed, anxious, struggle with low self-esteem or body image issues. My communication style involves actively listening, being nonjudgmental, validating, and being empathic. I ask a lot of open-ended questions to help clients truly explore their thoughts and emotions and gain insight into their behavior. The goal is to establish a relationship built on trust and mutual respect where clients feel supported and empowered. I always strive to create a positive and supportive environment when working with clients. I became a therapist because I have always had a desire to help others. I enjoy making a difference in the lives of others by helping people work through the challenges they face. My goal is to see individuals live healthier and happier lives. My approach to goal setting is to have clients identify the changes they want to make. I typically start by asking clients what brings them to therapy and what their main concerns are. Once we identify the goals we prioritize those goals to determine which goal the client wants to work on first, second, and so forth. Following this, we create smaller short-term goals to accomplish the bigger goal. This would be a collaborative process between myself and the client, one in which we review regularly to determine progress made towards reaching the goals. During the first session, we would go over informed consent and confidentiality. I complete an intake assessment so that I can get to know what is concerning each individual, their history, and their goals for counseling. My goal is to build a good therapeutic relationship with each client one that empowers and supports. I also educate clients further on my therapeutic approach during the first session.
I'm glad you stopped by! I'm an Arkansas native (most people never met anyone from there) while going to college and living in Louisiana for a number of years before moving to Georgia over 10 years ago. I have been a therapist for over 15 years and I've worked in almost every setting of mental health except with inpatient hospitalization treatment. I have also worked with varying ages and backgrounds. I'm licensed in several states and have specializations in Anger Management, Supervision, and EMDR. My approach is very person-centered with a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, and Emotionally Focused. I believe in working with clients where they are and helping them along their own therapeutic journey. So you're the driver of your own car! I believe the approach depends on whomever I am working with and their need at the present moment. Though eclectic in nature the modalities I most often utilize are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Client Centered. I have only one request for clients: Be open to the process! Other than that, I have and will work with pretty much anyone who meets that requirement. I have a very fun-loving tone and demeanor but I can also be very assertive in order to help you along the therapeutic process when necessary. I listen actively and with great intent so I'm able to help piece information together in an organized fashion even when thought processes may be disorganized or scattered. I always had a natural affinity for helping people as long as I can remember! It didn't take me long to figure out after writing my senior paper in high school about Sigmund Freud what I needed to do! Once I was clear, I made a plan and completed my BA in Psychology and got an MA in Counseling from the same institution. I tell people therapy chose me! I know that working in this field is definitely a calling and not just a career choice (at least for me anyway). Successful care is when a client is more self-aware about who they are as an authentic person and not afraid to walk in their truth. By being able to express that to others and not be limited by both internalexternal factors, one can live an overall healthy life. The first session with me isn't a typical, formal experience. I like to think of two people just having a "conversation ". Although I do like to get a sense of your background, who you are, and what you may have challenges with, I believe developing a good rapport and healthy therapeutic connection is vital from the beginning.
I try to meet people where they are. Therapy can look very different person to person. We reevaluate your needs each session to see if we should modify our goals or process in order to better suite your mental health and overall needs. I try to be proactive and productive but also allow time for things to move at a natural pace. I have 8 years of experience working in a variety of settings and serving a diverse population of clients. I have additional training in trauma, anxiety, PTSD, depression, and bipolar disorder issues. I also have a lot of experience with substance use including working at a detox unit and working regularly with clients to achieve their sobriety goals in an outpatient setting. I have spent much of my time practicing individual and couples therapy treating a wide range of issues and that is mostly what I do today.

I work to help clients know they are not alone and to tap into skills and strengths they've used in the past to manage life's challenges. I grew up in a rural community in Southeast Georgia. I felt awkward and sometimes alone because of social anxiety. After going away to college, all of those insecurities followed me, right into my first professional career opportunity. After I started therapy, I realized, that was the BEST DECISION I EVER MADE FOR MYSELF! If I could have told my younger self, its okay to feel different just keeping loving love yourself. Therapy was not what I expected; I found helped, support, unconditional understanding and was able build my confidence and develop tools to cope with life's challenges. I became a therapist to help others understand themselves and develop skills and tools to cope, find insight and self acceptance and know they are not alone. I work with clients to identify goals based on their treatment needs and personal goals. I take a collaborative approach and develop goals which are realistic and helps develop skills to reach goals. Lastly, my approach is to encourage individuals to develop small, consistent changes in thinking, feeling, and behaving to help recognize their progress and gain hope that change is possible. During the first session, we will meet for 60 minutes. Clients are allowed time to share openly and release the pressures of keeping things bottled up inside. I'll ask specific questions to help me gain insight about their treatment needs. The first visit is to work on building rapport and information gathering so that I know how I can best help meet your needs to develop goals.
