Therapy isn't just skill, or compassion, or strategies. It's the intimate process of thinking, speaking and listening together in ways that are creative and heartfelt, and provide insight and release from the myriad varieties of mental pain. As we sit together, we are finding out how to trust each other. Through conversation, meditative inquiry, imaginative play, and sometimes just being together quietly, we are creating the environment that allows you to work through past sorrows and losses that hold you hostage to hurtful and stagnant beliefs about yourself and the world. As we work together, you will find that you want to, and can, open yourself to what is new and hopeful; that you are curious and excited, rather than confused and resigned. Our work is supported by the depth of the relationship we create between us. It is particular to who you are and what you need. I will help you to develop your trust, your spontaneity, and your creativity in ways that are right for you. Some of our work will be hard, and some will be fun. It will all rest on the bedrock of the relationship we create between us. Another way of thinking about this work is that it is about learning how to create better relationships.

I work with COUPLES, TRAUMA, and INDIVIDUALS: With Couples I have a game plan and a focus on helping people connect deeper, learning how to help your partner regulate their nervous system, learning how to have the love that you have land in your partner's heart, and learning how to have forgiveness conversations that land. GAME PLAN: Emotional Popcorn, is fun game that helps refine emotional closeness skills. A protocol I created, Couples Anxiety Reduction Technique (CART) uses your partner's love to reduce or eliminates Anxiety triggers. A daily exercise, Holding Time, helps us internalize a felt sense of love and over time heals our wounds that set us up for painful cycles. NEEDS NOT MET = Repetitive fights, Silent-treatments, outbursts, condescending, being right against (rather than really listening) I FOCUS ON SHIFTING THE CULTURE OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP from its current negative painful cycles into being a safe place for both of you to GET YOUR ATTACHMENT NEEDS MET! You can then feel loved while together addressing your pattern. WITH COUPLES: I help you and your partner restore your emotional bond. My couples usually arrive very hurt and hurting. And in that state, they are often very hurtful to their partners. In the first session, I help your partner empathize with what it is like to be you in the relationship. We'll discuss the typical dance you get caught in. Instead of rehashing a fight, I show my couples how to slow it down and be curious and empathic for what your partner is going through. Following the EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) model, I'll often first have the person who has more of an anxious and pursuing relational style to empathize with what it is like for their partner when they get caught into their painful dance. After it is gotten on a deep level, I'll then help the person who has a more withdrawing and self-regulating style to empathize for their partner. For content, we'll use the typical dance that you get caught into; but what we'll actually be doing is experiencing empathy on a deep fundamental level. This almost always re-invigorates the bond and inspires both members of the couple to be committed to wanting to learn how to shift the culture of their relationship and really show up for each other. Once there is a "team", then we'll focus on problem solving areas of difference. My primary focus is on restoring the bond, I do use psycho-education and help my couples learn communication, conflict management, and emotional attunement skills. WITH TRAUMA: I use EMDR to help my clients process their traumas. I believe that the body is designed to naturally process pain and traumas. When somebody has PTSD, it means that the trauma gets stuck in part of their brain because their particular trauma was so overwhelming to them. By doing bi-lateral stimulation (having the brain be stimulated on the left side and right side at the same time by talking with me about your experience while watching my hands move back and forth) it helps trick the brain into letting the healthier rational part of the brain to self-soothe the part of the brain where the trauma is stuck. Unlike Talk-Therapy, which is ineffective with trauma, EMDR produces rapid results. I am also trained in ways of using EMDR with extremely chronic PTSD from long-term abuse. I use Phil Manfield's Dyadic Resourcing, and Flash Techniques and Jim Knipe's techniques in working with more complex cases. WITH INDIVIDUALS: Unlike most therapy where the therapist just sits there and patiently listens and every once in a while asks a question to show you that they are awake, my style is to be very engaged, real and authentic with my people. Usually my clients come in with a problem (relationship not working, something at work sucks, feeling anxious or depressed, etc). While I do bond with my clients and listen to them; I have found that talking about your problems takes a very long time to create change. What I find more effective is to catch the empowered alive part of my client that shows up (even if it is very brief). I'll lovingly redirect my client's attention to the "state" that they are in when they are paying attention to the empowered part. I help my clients learn how to access this part of them that is already there (but they are in oppressive patterns that prevent them from accessing it). So, the therapy instead of being about learning why you are all "messed up" (where it all came from); instead, it is about learning how to shift your state of mind and choose to engage yourself and the world from your deeper self. My job is to show clients how to live in their empowered selves that they previously didn't know how to access.

If you’re living with the aftereffects of trauma, chronic stress, or anxiety, you may feel constantly on guard, numb, or disconnected from yourself and your relationships. I provide trauma-informed online therapy for adults in California and Virginia. I’m an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)-forward psychologist: we build psychological flexibility—making room for difficult thoughts and feelings while taking values-based action. We go at your pace; you’ll never be pushed to disclose before you’re ready. My approach blends acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), prolonged exposure (PE), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed skills, mindfulness, and attachment-focused strategies. Together, we map patterns that keep symptoms going, strengthen boundaries, regulate the nervous system, and practice real-life communication skills so change holds outside session. I often support privacy-sensitive clients (federal security-clearance and tech government professionals), veterans, first responders, immigrants and refugees, and LGBTQ+ clients. Care is confidential and self-pay, with superbills available.

You may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that you can’t seem to break, whether that’s in your relationships, family, or within yourself. Maybe you’re longing to feel more secure, more understood, or simply more like yourself again. If you’ve landed here, you’re probably carrying a lot, and you don’t have to carry it alone. I’m Majica, and I offer a calm, grounded space to slow down, untangle what's been knotted, and start making sense of the emotional cycles you’re caught in. My approach is relational, compassionate, and attuned to the uniqueness of who you are. I specialize in emotionally focused therapy (EFT), a deeply researched model that helps individuals and couples repair trust, deepen emotional connection, and heal old wounds. In our work together, we’ll move at your pace. I’ll help you name what’s happening under the surface: the fears, the longings, the protective strategies. We will then gently explore how these patterns show up in your relationships and your body. This process isn’t about fixing you, it’s about helping you feel more whole, more connected, and more able to show up fully in your life and your relationships. Clients often tell me they feel deeply seen and safe with me. I bring warmth, clarity, and a steady presence, and I hold space with genuine care and curiosity. I believe change happens in relationships and that therapy can be a powerful place to practice new ways of being, relating, and healing.

I've been in private practice since 1987, working with individuals and couples. I work with men and women, ages 19 and above, who may be overwhelmed and confused by a life crisis or transition; who may find themselves holding back in their lives, not knowing what they want or afraid to go after it; repeating the same patterns in each of their unsatisfying relationships, leaving them feeling lonely and unseen. I am honored to accompany each client on a journey toward wholeness and peace of mind. Having traveled extensively, I have a deep appreciation of other cultures and languages.

Many people come to therapy already understanding a great deal about themselves. You may know which patterns keep repeating, where they came from, and even what you wish you could do differently. The frustrating part is that insight does not always make those patterns easier to change when stress, conflict, fear, or uncertainty takes over. My approach is active, collaborative, and focused on helping you turn understanding into meaningful change. I work with adults, couples, and families on relationship patterns, life transitions, anxiety and stress, grief and loss, divorce, identity, boundaries, and personal growth. Rather than applying the same formula to everyone, I pay attention to what keeps the problem going, what capacities may need to develop, and what kinds of experiences are most likely to help something shift. My work is informed by systems and strategic therapy, attachment, mindfulness, experiential approaches, and clinical hypnosis. I tend to work especially well with thoughtful, psychologically curious people who want more than short-term symptom relief and are interested in developing greater flexibility, agency, and clarity in how they live and relate. Hi! I'm glad you're here. Navigating the ups and downs of pregnancy, postpartum, or challenges like infertility can feel overwhelming and deeply personal. I’m here to walk with you every step of the way, offering support and understanding as you go through this journey. I find great fulfillment in walking alongside people as they navigate the many stages of life. My particular passion lies in supporting women as they experience the trials and triumphs of pregnancy, postpartum, and child-rearing. I also partner with women who are facing the heartache of infertility, miscarriage, and child loss.. When I was pregnant with my daughter a few years ago, I had the typical dream that I would move into motherhood smoothly and adjust to all the changes easily. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) throughout my pregnancy and suffered from intense Postpartum Depression and Anxiety. After working through my own healing journey, I realized that no parent should have to walk through these challenges alone. My goal is to provide you with a safe and supportive space where healing and growth can flourish. I am committed to meeting you with empowerment, encouragement, support, and empathy as you share your story. My approach to helping started back in grade school, where friends consistently came to me with the struggles they didn't know how to handle. Unfortunately, I did not always have a solution, or one that would have been easy to accomplish. But as the years went by and I continued to listen, focus on my friend's experience, and try to understand how she (or he) was feeling, I began to realize that the experience of sharing the story with someone who truly cared would contribute to finding possible steps to take. From there, my friend could think more clearly and bounce ideas off of me, providing both of us with the opportunity to collaborate on those possible next steps. For me, these kinds of experiences helped to build the foundation of empathy, support, and focused attention that I give to those who share their stories with me. It is within this approach that I will meet you where you are and listen deeply to what you want to share and to support you with what you are not yet comfortable sharing. Building a trusting and safe space with you is crucial to our work together. I am here to walk with you, shoulder-to-shoulder, through this healing journey so that you are not facing your challenges alone. I have experienced the work of my own therapy. Once I understood that I was not alone in my struggle, I was able to call upon an inner strength that I had all but forgotten was inside of me. This "rediscovery" of my own internal strength, wisdom, and courage allowed me to move forward in ways I didn't know. Now, I am honored to be there for YOU. I will walk with you through this healing process until you decide you want to enjoy the walk on your own.
