Description

A Four-Week Museum Class for Clinicians Wednesdays, October 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2018 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston This four-session class will introduce Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS), a method and tool used to develop observation skills across contexts. We will use VTS as a way to develop our clinical work by learning to look at and deepen our experience of art and our engagement with potential space. Potential space is an opening where something new can be realized or created by suspending the known for the sake of new discovery. In viewing art, potential space involves engaging with art, allowing it to take us into our own affective and bodily experience in new ways. Experiencing art in these new ways can help us, as clinicians refine our ability to see, open ourselves to ambiguity, and not rush to judgment. It can help us learn how to be more present in the moment, to tolerate and even enjoy the unknown vs. having to nail everything down. Over the course of the four weekly sessions, we will have many opportunities for practice. As we use VTS to view art together, we will become more open to creative possibilities. This may then help us to create conditions for potential space in psychotherapy and may translate into a more engaged experience in our work, our lives, and the world in which we live. Limited to 10 people Cost $195.00 Admission to the Museum of Fine Arts is a separate fee. http://www.mfa.org Cancellation policy: Full refund for cancellation 30 days prior to the start date, otherwise no refund unless your spot is filled by someone on the waiting list.
