About Our Center

Our philosophy is not to address problems primarily through the lens of psychopathology but to focus instead on strengths, resources, and building an individual’s sense of competency and self-confidence. I refer to our people as residents, not residents, because I see them as troubled, having difficulty managing nervous system arousal and navigating interpersonal relationships but not as sick or ill. I believe strongly in the natural healing process and see our role as helping the residents remove the obstacles that are interfering with healing. n terms of treatment modalities for treating underlying mental health issues, Cottonwood utilizes a number of techniques such as EMDR, equine therapy, somatic experiencing and breath work in addition to DBT and CBT to educate the residents on how to integrate their experiences into their everyday life in a positive way. Our team of experts assists residents to develop a plan that can facilitate neurogenesis - the growth of new brain tissue that can strengthen neuronal circuitry - thereby reducing symptoms and improving overall emotional health and well- being. Each patient sees our Nutritionist to work with residents to develop healthy eating plans that optimize their intake of key vitamins and amino acids that are very important precursors to good mood biology. residents have an opportunity to do some kind of movement/activity 18x/week whether it\\'s an outside activity or a structured recreational therapy group conducted by a Master\\'s Level Recreational Therapist. During their stay our residents not only receive nutritional support, they also have access to holistic therapies such as acupuncture, yoga, Tai Chi, stress reduction techniques, lifestyle coaching and meditation classes. Our chef prepares food fresh and makes it fresh daily, from scratch, and it’s amazing!
