My Approach to Helping
My home and my private practice are in the Midwest. I am committed to helping people overcome depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, adjust to challenging life changes, and other stresses that affect all of us at some point in our lives.
I believe that healing is a collaborative endeavor that requires honest care without judgment and cooperatively assisting my clients in clarifying their goals for treatment. Rather than adopting one methodology for all individuals and issues, I draw from a variety of methods to create a tailored approach for each individual and situation. As a therapist, I am warm, open, encouraging, and direct.
My credentials include the following: I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW), a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), and I have a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois.
I have over 48 years of experience as a mental health professional. Before starting my own practice, I founded an organization, REACH, Inc., to provide psychotherapy and urgent care counseling, and, later, I established a child welfare agency to assist children who were abused and neglected, runaways, and single parents with difficult youth. I have consulted with dozens of organizations and taught at Chicago State University and at National Louis University, as well as presented workshops across the U.S.
I have vast experience counseling clients with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and relationship difficulties, and a wealth of experience working with high-risk populations, the elderly, and supervision. My background makes me a very good social worker who can help people from all walks of life.
