My Approach to Helping
My office is located at 501 Price George Street, Ste 209, 23185. To make an appointment, my scheduler can be reached at email@example.com. I also supervise Stephen Barlow, a talented intern who carries my full endorsement to serve your needs and is often able to see you sooner than I can.
You are stronger than you know, and I seek to help you reconnect with your strength at this time of need. Life definitely happens on its own terms, and the process of forgiveness and acceptance can seem overwhelming. How we face and embrace challenges can be the difference between suffering and rising above. I believe that learning new ways of doing and new ways of thinking can help us live differently, for the better. My approach to counseling is grounded in believing in change that we didn't once realize we were capable of. I truly believe everyone deserves the opportunity to connect to their greatest happiness and satisfaction in their precious life, and if the work we do together to achieve your goals can help bring new joy to your life, I feel my purpose as a therapist is fulfilled. Please let me know how I can help. I look forward to working together.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I am skilled with helping family members of addicts cope with the emotional pain that keeps they, themselves, from living fully. I also am skilled at working with recovery from addiction, performance anxiety, and am a lifelong LGBTQQI straight ally that is happy to support you as you navigate the challenges you face daily. I am skilled at issues that arise from a culture of large family living, and pregnancy and post-natal support.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
A note from Stephen--Intern at Cascadia Counseling: "I am interested in using Motivational Interviewing to create a facilitative relationship with clients so that we can explore any changes in their life that they would like to make without any judgement. Additionally, I like to use Cognitive Behavioral approaches to link how our thoughts impact our behaviors and actions. By better linking these, we can have greater control over how we think, feel, and act in our day to day life.
I am interested in working with people who are struggling with substance abuse problems, LGBTQ+ populations, people struggling with anxiety, depression, significant life transitions, and identity issues.
I am really excited to learn directly from Dr. McLaughlin and clients. My goal is to create a safe environment with the clients where they can better get to know themselves and build a more resilient life for themselves. I look forward to working with you."
Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
If you've had a negative therapy experience, I can relate, and I remember learning how big a deal it is to connect with my therapist in a real way after that. Your ability to connect in a genuine way is of tantamount priority for me. Please let me encourage you to consider giving therapy another chance.
