My Approach to Helping
"You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step..."
I believe that each of us was put on this earth to be in "communion" with others...to be in meaningful, healthy relationships. Unfortunately, no one really teaches us how to be part of a successful relationship.
As we grow up, we soak up whatever we see happening in our family of origin, and perhaps assume that that is how all relationships are supposed to work.... Therefore, I believe that crisis in a relationship can be a "blessing," as it is an opportunity for you to slow down, and to examine your expectations for your relationship. But most importantly, it is an opportunity to let go of those "pre-programmed" notions that haven't been working, and create a relationship that works for each of you. Humor is nearly always a part of the "therapy journey" with me!

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
The therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is at the top of my list for requirements for successful therapy. Without that in place, it doesn't much matter what else happens, the process will most likely not go forward.
I have utmost caring and respect for my patients...I am consistently amazed and in awe of life they have experienced and am willing and able to assist in their going forward to peace and joy. I do not know "everything", but if we hit a snag we will find the right person, situation, experience to propel us forward again. I am open to my patients openingly sharing what does and does not work for them or is not helpful. If you are not reaching your desired destination, that's our cue to change gears, speed, or direction!
