My Approach to Helping
When I start to work with individuals, I learn about everything that makes them who they are. Instead of focusing on what other therapists and organizations have said and done in the past, I prefer to have individuals explain their history and present situation in their own terms. I build a unique treatment plan for every person I see and adjust that plan as we work together to meet their specific needs and wishes. The approaches, styles, and tools I use are always growing, as well. Rather than focusing on what the "flavor of the day" is in therapy, I am dedicated to following current research evidence that shows what actually works with people in similar situations. I view it as a duty to my clients to learn about and use the most effective tools at my disposal in order to help them move forward with their lives.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Much of my work and research has been dedicated to helping people who have experienced some form of trauma. With a background in both therapy and computer science, I have had the opportunity to create a virtual reality (VR) system that is able to create any sights, sounds, scents, and sensations that can be used to provide cognitive-behavioral exposure therapy. Rather than giving people traditional "homework" as part of their therapy, I am able to create any scenarios, environments and other stimuli that may be necessary to help them move forward with their lives. And it can all be done in the safety of my office, where I can help them every step of the way.
