My Approach to Helping
Everybody struggles with feelings of inadequacy and each of us has our own ways of overcoming or compensating for this experience. My work involves validating clients and helping them find clarity amidst the chaos of distractions that shift attention from what they are afraid to feel. I believe the fundamental vehicle of change is the relationship between the counselor and the client. Therapy is a collaborative approach in which the therapist helps clients confront their issues by staying present and exploring their narratives and relationships through different dynamics and perspectives.
My approach to counseling involves elements of the humanistic theory, Gestalt therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, affirmative therapy, mindfulness, trauma-focused therapy, and family systems and multicultural theories.
I provide counseling to LGBTQ people, people living with HIVAIDS, as well as children, adolescents, and families. Areas of focus include life transitions, trauma, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, abuse, neglect, gender, sexuality, and family issues. Se ofrece servicios en español.
