My Approach to Helping
Hi, my name is Darlene. I am a licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). I have 25 years experience providing therapy in multiple settings, including: inpatient mental health, outpatient day program and outpatient drug and alcohol settings. I enjoy working with people who have anxiety, depression, Bipolar Disorder, OCD and addiction issues, to name a few.
I believe first and foremost in unconditional acceptance and building a trusting relationship. I enjoy exploring with people collaboratively areas where they become stuck and work together to change patterns that aren’t working in order to begin to make positive changes. I will also support you in healing from difficult life struggles, including change and loss.
My approach is eclectic and often includes Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT). I also focus on empowering the individual and working to build self esteem and confidence to reach one’s goals and full potential. I work with all age ranges from young adult in helping to explore a sense of direction, to middle age and beyond. I enjoy working with men as well as women from all backgrounds, including with histories of abuse and trauma.
I have a Master’s degree in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Florida and my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southeastern University.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family watching movies and going out to dinner. I enjoy reading and going to the gym. I also love to go to the beach whenever I can.
If you are looking for someone to talk to and to work through your issues with, I would love to have the opportunity to talk with you!
