My Approach to Helping
I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Northern Illinois University and a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling at the Illinois School of Professional PsychologyArgosy University. I have many years of counseling experience from working at community agencies and community colleges. I have worked with ages ranged from very young children to older adults. My work with youth included young children who have experienced trauma or abuse. I have worked with teens whom have experienced a myriad of issues including depression, suicidal ideation, abuse and self-harming behaviors. With older adults, I have assisted those who were struggling with addiction, suffering from anxiety, andor experiencing life changes such as divorce and many other issues.
My approach to therapeutic treatment is to engage clients with care, compassion and understanding. I want clients to feel that I am on their side collaborating with them working towards the best possible outcome of the situation they are seeking to address. I utilize cognitive behavioral treatment or solution- focused therapy with a person-centered approach that emphasizes empathy and unconditional positive regard. I believe that every person desires to feel heard and understood. I want to be there for them in their time of need.
My spare time is generally spent with my husband, daughter, extended family and friends. I enjoy taking long walks on sunny days, strengthening my green thumb in my garden, and sneaking in a nap every now and then.
