My Approach to Helping
My psychotherapy practice is specialized with adults, couples, older adults, and veterans.
If you are experiencing discomfort and/or suffering from emotional or physical trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, living with a medical/physical disease or life threatening illness, addiction, suicidal thoughts, or confronting life changes, please know now that psychological healing and life transformation are still possible.
Psychotherapy with an understanding, compassionate and skillful psychotherapist, can provide meaningful healing and life-transformation. Together, we will explore the concerns that are causing distress either individually, or as a family or couple and explore how these concerns might prevent you from living more fully, freely, and authentically.
More Info About My Practice
The focus of my psychotherapy practice is to collaboratively work with you to explore and understand the concerns that you are facing, to lessen the emotional, physical, and relational impacts of your concerns, and to help you create the life that you want to live, or the couple or family that you want to become.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
I have been "on the couch" myself in psychotherapy and "on the cushion" in meditation practices to confront and continue to work with concerns related to a difficult childhood, a depression, and a desire to live more authentically. In these ways, and in others, I am able to compassionately understand your personal distress and suffering, and know that out of personal suffering, meaning-making, healing, and life-transformation are possible.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
Healing and transformation occur in the relationship between you and I. Together, we will explore and bring awareness to the emotions, ways of relating, and limitations that arise in relationship with yourself and others. This awareness ushers in opportunity for in-sight and change. In other words, with greater awareness into the self, that is, into how you related to self, to others, and the world, creates opportunity for greater choice and freedom.
Healing and life-transformation are not about absolutely getting rid of depression or anxiety or relationship issues or health issues, but rather integrating and making meaning with such concerns in day-to-day living, which in-turn lessens its intensity and limiting effects.
