My Approach to Helping
I am a most caring and empathetic therapist. I participate in helping my patient(s) to feel better. I participate in guiding my patient(s) on the voyage of self-exploration, encouraging curiosity of oneself and to the group if the therapy is the group therapy. All therapy is collaborative.
When we get into trouble, feel really bad emotionally, depressed, anxious-- it is often parts of our self that we do not know very well. Freud introduced to us, there are unconscious forces within us. I guide my patients to illuminate those forces and see what is there.
(I was certified at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute in their Fundamentals Program; June 2017.)
I work with children of all ages: Grades K-5, adolescents, young adults. I work closely with their parents and I will coach parents. I see parents as well as couples. I offer individual sessions, group sessions and couples therapy.
I am also a certified Couple Therapist by the Gottman Institute which is empirically based couples therapy. It works! I became certified so to offer parents support in their relationship to each other.
More Info About My Practice
I am well known for many years for my Social Skills Groups. I use Peer Group Leaders in my Jr. High and High School groups, offering a place teens and adolescents can "give back" and support kids needing a group. As well a place kids can be supported if needing a group. The groups have been highly popular and highly successful since 2004.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I love helping children and their parents to feel better! I have facilitated groups for young people for over fifteen years, and I see first-hand how the kids walk into the group, and how they walk out after some time with the group, more successful and feeling better and able, is the word. Being able to fly so to say. We do what we should be doing socially speaking, in the groups, while I metaphorically hold their hand and show them the way. I have witnessed so much success after a child is in the group, that I can say indeed yes, Social Skill Group Therapy supports and heals the kids of all ages. Social Skills Group Therapy works!
When I am working with an individual, I love being there for them and my empathy and listening skills together with our collaborative approach, help them to feel well again.
