My Approach to Helping
I focus on couple relationships. I believe we all yearn for connection because it is a basic human need. Often our own fears and defenses get in the way of expressing and accepting this need in a way that invites empathy and connection. I work with my clients to see each other more clearly and create deep meaningful connections.
I believe all of us have the innate capacity and desire to change for the better. We might have developed coping patterns that once served us well but are no longer beneficial and rather causing us pain. My job as a therapist is to help you get in touch with your own internal strength and facilitate change from the inside out. This kind of internally driven change is permanent.
When we feel safe, connected with those we love, and we continue to learn and grow, we feel happy. This connection ironically requires that we are strong, independent people who can stand on our own first. We all have an innate yearning to individuate and pursue our own dreams and hopes. When these needs for individuality and connection are balanced and in harmony, we achieve the full height of our potential and happiness.
Most painful experiences stem from a lack of connection with those we love, a lack of growth as a full human being, or a combination of both. I use neuroscience techniques to get liberated from these painful relationship patterns.
My primary treatment modality is EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and some of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also treat a lack of connection, various addictions, "codependence", divorce adjustment, PTSD, depression, panic attacks, anxiety, and OCD. Most of these symptoms are rooted in a lack of secure attachment with others. With powerful and moving experiences with our partner, difficult interactions can transform into deep understanding, connection and safety. You can live a happy, fulfilled life!
