My Approach to Helping
I've been in the field for 15 years. I spent my first four years working exclusively with teenagers dealing with substance abuse issues. For the last 11 years I have been working with individuals of all ages dealing with personal crisis--individuals who have been assaulted, who are dealing with griefloss, the end of a relationship, or who are actively suicidal. I have talked with individuals as they held a gun, knife, or bottle of pills while debating what to do next. I have also supervised those doing the same thing.
As a therapist I feel that I have two jobs: First, I want someone to feel like they are heard; that people feel they are able to say the things they need to say in a safe environment. Second, making sure that I am asking you what you need from me, and then finding a therapeutic way to help us get there.
I know that it can be difficult to find time to see a counselor in a 9-5 world. For that reason I offer a good number weekend and evening hours.
Also, for any LLPC candidates out there, I am able to provide licensure supervision.
