My Approach to Helping
Hello, my name is Dr. Steve Harris. I compassionately work to help you achieve better relationships and a happier life. I help my clients get unstuck when their lives aren\'t working. When you\'re freed from that which doesn\'t work, you can move forward with what works for you.
People frequently see me after self-help books, medication (or the refusal to take it), adopting healthy habits, changing their diet, and similar changes have not worked. These are usually smart people who know how to live, but who struggle to implement healthy tools in the heat of the moment. When you\'re in an emotional state, your reactions can sabotage your success.

I believe that close, compassionate work in a safe, accepting environment can inspire clients to push through challenges in their relationships that previously felt too dangerous or painful. Activating that which has been locked away offers the chance to find new ways to be yourself. This can help you be different with others, too.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
While therapy involves learning to rely on the relationship to grow, useful therapy should increase one's awareness of themselves, free them from what is holding them back and therefore offers the potential to be more independent, more confident, and give them the ability to venture further into life. Not receiving useful help that will help you go further in life is more likely to hold you back. I think we feel inadequate when we avoid what we can already do ourselves, or when we avoid finding help that could help us do more.
