My Approach to Helping

I believe that therapy taps into the potential for personal growth and development, for expansion of freedom to love, work, and create, that we all have within us. I work with you to identify what blocks and inhibits your potentials. Often it is old patterns of thinking and behaving that once served important functions to protect us, but now limit us. When we understand the circumstances and needs that led you to develop these old patterns, you can begin to test out whether you still need these to feel safe or can open yourself up to new experiences. Change can be unsettling but is also the way to open up possibilities for new pleasures and accomplishments.
For me, the therapeutic relationship is a partnership, an honest relationship in which it feels safe to discuss anything including feelings about the therapist. The therapeutic relationship is one key to helping set in motion the forces for change.
