My Approach to Helping
Steve uses an integrative approach to best tailor to his clients individual needs, goals, and expectations out of therapy. The techniques Steve uses vary with a focus around Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a person-centered approach. Steve also utilizes a positive confrontational approach, where he therapeutically challenges and confronts his clients to help them with negative perceptions, beliefs, assumptions, and automatic thoughts.
Steve has worked with clients of all backgrounds on a wide range of issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Steve also worked with LGBTQ+ clients, working with identity issues, managing traumas related to coming out, and managing interpersonal relationships. Steve has conducted both individual and group sessions with clients and strives to providing a safe and welcoming environment. Steve uses a multidisclipinary approach, understanding that each client has medical, psychological, and sociocultural influences that factor into the therapy process. He addresses how current events, gender, societal, and cultural factors may play into the issues a client may be facing.
