My Approach to Helping

I waited a little late to get started toward my passion- Family Therapy! After working in state government for numerous years, I decided it was time for me to do what I love; to help families and individuals to communicate with one another. I feel everyone has a past, present, and future. My philosophy of therapy is to have a safe place for anyone to share their story and work on their behaviors, feelings, and personal views. By feeling safe and comfortable, people allow themselves learn techniques and coping strategies for whatever is causing them to feel depressed, anxious, and any other emotion.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help

Of course like any professional healthcare worker, it is important to know a little about your medical background, relationship background, and what brings you to therapy in the first place. With this information, we (you and I) can identify the problem area, take responsibility, learn coping strategies, implement these strategies, and feel so much better.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I was depressed and angry for years and just felt like there was no one I could talk to or wanted to talk about my feelings. I finally went to my primary physician who referred me to a counselor. It was amazing how spending an hour every week or every other week talking about my life, good times and bad times helped change my life. I decided I needed to become someone whom people would feel safe to tell me their about their life.
