My Approach to Helping
Do you keep finding yourself in relationships that hurt and can’t figure out why? Do you feel you have to be perfect in order to be loved? I can help you. Our early, formative relationships have a big impact on how we relate to others and ourselves. If those relationships are somehow lacking or disrupted, for whatever reason, it can profoundly affect fundamental aspects of our sense of self and our ability to form satisfying relationships.
More Info About My Practice
I'm a psychotherapist in private practice since 2008. I began offering online therapy in 2014, and was one of the first in the field to provide video based online therapy as an option. I specialize in supporting people with interpersonal and complex trauma backgrounds in navigating a variety of life and relational challenges. I look forward to helping you learn to trust yourself and others, feel safe and secure in relationships, and build a greater sense of self-worth.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
With direct, proven approaches to helping you process and resolve trauma, I don't just help you "get past" the past. I help you to understand the trauma and its impact, make sense of what happened to you, and restore your life so you can feel safe, secure, and whole again. I specialize in helping individual adults heal from the damaging effects of abusive and neglectful relationships, whether in childhood or adulthood.
My Role as a Therapist
I welcome diverse populations in my therapy practice, including all sexual orientations, genders, and relationship structures. My therapeutic style is calm, deeply caring, and respectful of each person's unique goals, struggles, and strengths. I practice psychodynamic therapy, which means I help you gain awareness of your internal and external obstacles in order to promote deep and lasting changes in your life. I also provide the practical tools you need to express yourself fully and to communicate and get along with the people in your life. I draw from multiple schools of therapy including interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, and existential therapy.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
If you'd like to begin therapy but getting to an appointment is difficult for any reason, whether because of traffic, scheduling, medical conditions, or anxiety, online therapy may be much easier. Online therapy is backed by research and closely mimics an in-person appointment, unlike text-based therapy services. For added security, I use Simple Practice, a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform that makes online therapy simple and secure, and has an interface that makes it feel almost like a traditional office-based therapy session. Not only is online therapy convenient, it can be the difference between getting the help you need or not.
