My Approach to Helping
I’m an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist accredited by the HCPC (UK) and have successfully worked with individuals and groups in Statutory and non Statutory Sector, Higher Education and in private settings. I specialise in Online Therapy with adults and younger people transitioning into adulthood.
There are many reasons that bring people to therapy and most of us will seek therapy when things have got really bad and you're struggling to carry on as you are. Maybe you're new to therapy or tried it before. Whatever your reason for being here, maybe you're feeling stuck; trapped by your negative thoughts and self-defeating behaviours, your current relationships, your work, your past or worries about your future.
You may feel lost in a cycle which you cannot find a way out of but no longer want to be in. You want something to be different, to let go of what is causing you difficulties, and to improve your quality of life and relationships... Easier said than done right?
You may have a supportive network of family and friends, however sharing difficult things may be very hard to do for fear of burdening others or maybe being judged or worse, being misunderstood and told to just ‘get over it’.
Whatever it is, you don’t have to cope alone and help is available.
Psychotherapy provides a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to process your thoughts and feelings about particular areas in your life that are causing you distressing or problems.
I believe that each person’s lived experience is unique. By developing a shared understanding of your experiences, I can help you to make sense of your feelings and recognise patterns and behaviours that have built up over time. This can enable you to see your difficulties and challenges in a more manageable way and work through them.
I work in an integrative therapeutic way, which means that I believe one size does not fit all.
Your needs will be unique to you and I will suggest suitably supportive interventions to help you along your path of self discovery, healing and change.
Sometimes words fail us and I may invite you to use the arts & metaphors and explore experimenting with imagery or imagination. These are proven to provide deeper insight and provide alternative perspectives and views, especially when it is hard to find the words for challenging feelings or thoughts. I'm trained to work with 7 forms of arts and have adapted this to working online.
You might be put off by the idea of using "The Arts" (a lot of people are) and think you'll need artistic skills, but you don't. Do you watch movies, go to the theatre, listen to music and maybe even write poetry? Then you engage with the arts in your own way, and we may use creativity to facilitate the therapeutic process if you so wish.
Having sessions online from the comfort of your home or a quiet place at work where you will not be disturbed can be the steps on a path of potential great change. Through the process of this journey of self discovery, we can explore the origins of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and find ways forward helping you live a life that you want and deserve.
There are no quick fixes, and I don't own a magic wand (sorry). But I do believe in a person'a ability to transform with a positive therapeutic experience which I can offer to you.
I look forward to hearing from you.
