My Approach to Helping
Counseling is a process in which you and I will work together to process and transform the negative experiences that have led you to seek professional help. The past can't be changed but one's present reactions to past events can change dramatically.
A requisite for success in therapy is the forming of a solid, therapeutic relationship between you and an experienced, licensed professional. Many times, talk therapy alone is sufficient. When talk therapy is NOT enough, a body-centered approach such as EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), in conjunction with talk therapy, often proves more effective. This is especially true when the complaint bringing you to therapy is trauma-based. Trauma has been described as any experience that was non-nurturing.
My primary orientation is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT ). Additionally, I am an EMDR therapist, certified by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). I am also formally trained in Brainspotting, which evolved from EMDR. Additional information about these therapies is available online. As a trained divorce coach, I have helped many individuals and couples resolve issues that arise before, during, and after a divorce. I can also help formulate a co-parenting plan for couples with minor children.
My clients are taught a stress reduction technique at the beginning of therapy and later learn simple mindfulness meditation, if appropriate. We will also discuss the mind-body connection and how negative emotions can have a physical impact and therefore should not be ignored.
Locations: My offices are conveniently located in Long Beach on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and in Torrance, CA on Wednesdays. Both locations have ample free parking.

Insurance: Clients pay in full at the beginning of each session by check or cash. For those with a PPO plan, I will contact the insurer to determine coverage and submit documentation so that the client can be reimbursed directly by the insurance company in accordance with the terms of hisher policy. If you are not covered by insurance and finances are presently an issue, I can work on a sliding scale with a limited number of clients. I do not accept credit or debit cards.
