My Approach to Helping

What we tell ourselves matters. What we believe about ourselves matters even more. In fact; it controls everything we think, say, feel, experience, and do. ~Sherry

More Info About My Practice

COVID-19 Emotional Support

Do you want help processing the tremendous extra emotional and physical burdens of COVID-19? We are carrying aaallllllll the feelings, the pains, the flipping insanity of people, the collective fear, the grief - oh my god, the grief and despair not just of our own but that of our entire world. And we are doing that "in the comfort of our own home" which means with our screaming and bored little ones and while trying to home school our bigger ones. While working from home, or being laid off of simply let go. While not being able to go outside of our homes and outside of ourselves. All of the stuff that we have to deal with is right here, resting on your chest or churning in your guts, with no place to run to and no place to hide - especially with your spouse full time in the house. If you are intraverted, even you may be feeling antsy. Even we need to get out once in a while. You, especially, may be feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders. How did it get there? You thought you locked and disinfected the door.

So. We are opening up a few extra virtual spots in our schedule to offer short term help. Even if you just need a session or two or three to help you carry this extra load, that may be all it takes to help you feel better during this "unprecedented time" in history. There ARE actually very good, loving, and positive things rippling beneath the surface of this all. If we can just hold on through it. I can help hold you while you hold on. I'm sorry, I can't do that with 20-minute free phone sessions right now. I too need all the time I can receive to take care of my own self in order to take care of you. #selfcare But you can call or email me and leave a message. Let me know you are interested in COVID-19 support. Let me know if you have insurance you are hoping to use and if so, which insurance. And let me know a number that I can use to text you back or if you prefer I respond to your email.

Thanks, stay safe, be healthy and well, Sherry

Our Royal Oak office is like sitting in a cozy living room. A window to stare out of and plenty of natural light. Interesting art and a large selection of books, because you never know what will spark just the right memory, mood, or conversation. Your choice of couches and chairs to sit on or cuddle up in. A fire burning in the cooler months.

We offer weekend hours and will happily accept your Blue Cross Blue Shield, BCBS Federal, and BlueCare insurance. Don't have one of those? Call me. It may be possible that we are in the process of credentialing to be a professional mental health provider on your insurance panel. It may also be possible to see you out of network. I'm happy to help you make sense of your insurance plan.

No insurance? We do accept private pay clients. (Some therapists don't.) We are known for working quickly and accurately, and our clients experience noticeable results often within their first weeks of treatment.

My Guiding Ethical Principles

That's simple. To care. I can't tell you how many clients have quickly said that unlike some other therapists they had tried, "I actually seem to care about them". And it's true. You can do amazing things with your life with someone by your side who truly cares.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

First 20 minutes by phone free. If we fit, great! We'll talk about the next step. If we feel another therapist would be just right for you; we'll acknowledge that and I'll wish you well. That's fine too. (I take the "anti-sales" sales approach.) Either way, I promise you will leave with something from those 20 minutes that you did not have before.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

Are you an odd duck? A misfit? An introvert? An artist? Someone who doesn't quite fit "here"? Perhaps you feel lonely, anxious, outcast, weighed down, overly responsible, pained. You're irritated, sensitive, suffering, trying to find your way while others tell you you're doing it wrong. What do you want? What do you need? Where do you go from here? Come. Sit with me a moment. Feel yourself melt into the warmth of belong. Life doesn't have to be so lonely, so isolated, so hard. Using her own introverted, quirky, quick, and intuitive ways; Sherry sees what is good and draws out the best of who you really are.
