My Approach to Helping
Like most therapists, I am compassionate. I think that's a prerequisite for becoming a therapist, isn't it? There is a lot of evidence that being in the presence of a compassionate listener on a regular schedule is very helpful to your well-being. However, it isn't always enough to help people make difficult changes in their lives. This is why I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy - it is a great intervention for helping therapists use compassion AND create change with their clients. I work collaboratively with you, the client, to formulate a treatment plan, to map out your road to recovery and wholeness. I love my job and it is my joy to help people find their center and align with their life worth living!
More Info About My Practice
We have fun at Awakening Hearts Counseling. I love to laugh and derive great pleasure in helping my clients head "home." We do this in individual sessions, as well as skills training groups. I have groups for the core DBT skills, as well as recovery-focused groups.
Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
So have I! When I was in graduate school, I was asked why I wanted to be a therapist. One of the reasons was I had been in therapy with a less than stellar therapist and I wanted to provide for others something that was not given to me - competent, compassionate therapy that works with the client's values and goals. I don't do DBT TO you, I do it with you! No one knows you better than yourself, and I will honor that. With my expertise and your motivation, we'll make a great team.
